The Archive wishes to thank:

* Dan Buchler for thhe books of Jewish interest from his late father's library, Fritz Buchler, who died in April 2004.

* Susan Bures , who has set aside the collection of bound copies of the Australian Jewish News and some other Ausralian Jewish journals from the Falk Library, which are awaiting delivery to the Archive.

* Sophie Caplan who continues to donate journals, broadsheets, and papers. These contributions have formed the basis of the archive ephemera collection. He husland Leslie has recently died, after a long illness, and we express our sympathy.

* H.P Cohn for a CD rom containing the second, revised and enlarged edition of "The Collection of Gross-Breesen Letters and Related Material" which has been renamed:" A Testament of the Survivors: A memorial to the Dead".

* Ilana Cohen who has donated some more ephemera, and now works occasional hours in in the archive. She is re-typing some of the detailed Archive schedules so they can be put'on line' in the website catalogue.

* Luise Flavin from Massachusetts for her research paper on her father, Helmut Niendorf, who was a prisoner in the Hay internment camp in 1941, but was not brought to Australia on the'Dunera'. In 2001, she donated some graphics done at the camp by the engineer Engel and a copy of Schonbach's drawing and caricature of prisoners on the way to the dentist.

* * Ilona Lee from the New South Jewish Board of Deputies has prepared more archives to give to the Archive.

* Dr Rod Parker who continues to donate additional CD-Roms of images and material he has prepared on his ancestry which links up the Michaelis and Parker families.

Festschrift for Professor Alan David Crown

The Festschrift is available from the Mandelbaum Trust for $A22.95 (plus $5 postage within Australia and $12.00 overseas).This is a worthwhile publication covering Biblical topics, the Dead Sea Scrolls, Jewish studies, history and Australian Jewish history, with contributions from scholars all round the world.

Washington Holocaust Museum

The Twelfth Hour tapes, four hundred in all, which were recorded between 1988 and 1992 by the Australian Institute of Holocaust Studies, are being copied for the Washington Holocaust Museum. Transcripts of the 120 interviews have been transferred to DVDs and it just remains to finalise the copying of the tapes.

Archive Publications

The sheet music of Mi Adir and Sheva B'rochot and Phantasia Judaica (by Boaz Bischofswerder), which was initially composed on the Dunera may be purchased from the Archivist for AU$20 (includes GST) each, plus postage (AU$5 local, AU$10 overseas). Felix Werder has added a flute part to his father's music.

Copies of Monograph No 12: Early Australian Zionism: An Annotated Index of Records in the Central Zionist Archives, Jerusalem. Part 2. 50pp are available from the Archivist for AU$5.00 (includes GST) + $1.00 postage (AU$3.00 overseas). The online catalogue on the web is kept up to date.

Paul Stenhouse. Kitab al Tarikh of Abu'l Fath: The Chronicle of Abu'l Fath. Mandelbaum Studies in Judaica No. 1. 1985. 400 pp (approx). Stenhouse has translated the whole of this most important of the Samaritan chronicles into English for the first time. Bruce Hall. Samaritan Religion from John Hyrcanus to Baba Rabbah. Mandelbaum Studies in Judaica no 3. 1987. 300pp (approx). This work is a study of the evidence for Samaritan religious practices and beliefs from the time that the Samaritan Temple on Mt Gerizim was destroyed to the period of the great Samaritan reformer and leader Baba Rabbah. Alan D. Crown and Lucy A. Davey (eds). New Samaritan Studies III & IV: Essays in Honour of G. D. Sixdenier1995. Studies in Judaica No. 5. 618pp. (approx). The collection extends the range of studies on the Samaritans and should be an essential purchase for any library with holdings on Samaritan Studies. Price AU$75.00 (paperback only available). Copies of Glenn Gordon's, Guardians of Zion: the Shomrim in Australia 1939-1944 Mandelbaum Studies in Judaica No 6. 224pp. and Eliyahu Honig's Zionism in Australia 1920-1939: the Formative Years Mandelbaum Studies in Judaica No 7. 1997. 116pp. Gordon's work is the definitive account of the Shomrin youth movement which set the tone for Australian Jewry's involvement in supporting the creation of the Jewish State of Israel. The second work by Eliyahu Honig draws on archival resources in Jerusalem and traces the history of Australian Zionism through the period when the Zionist Federation of Australian and New Zealand was established to its role at the beginning of World War II.

Israel Kipen's: Ahad Ha-am: The Zionism of the Future. Mandelbaum Studies in Judaica no 9. 1997. 187pp. This work deals in depth with the philosophical underpinnings of Zionism as an interpretation of Jewish history and as a political ideology. Cost AU$20.00. Postage AU$5.00- overseas AU$12.00.

The fourth edition of Periodical Publications from the Australian Jewish Community. which was first published in 1986 and incorporated in the 1987 edition of the Bibliography of Australian Judaica, can be downloaded as a PDF file, and will be kept updated.

The Archive continues to attract a wide variety of users who include students of higher degrees from local and overseas universities, as well as local users who include authors, film makers, journalists, writers and researchers preparing exhibitions.

In late November, the archivist took three months long service leave to be in Israel do do some writing, and was replaced by Ilana Cohen. While there, shhe also visited the Central Zionist Archives, and in March 2006 copies some more Australian zionist records, which are extracts of a few selected letters from 1907 til 1967.

The Archive wishes to thank the University of Sydney Library for housing and technical support of the Archive, as well as the Mandelbaum Trust for its financial support. Friends of the Archive continue their help with the Archive's projects, and in the supplying of records and information. Each year an appeal is made for donations, and this support is acknowledged. The money raised is used to pay for essential services, equipment, filming, ocasionally towards salary expenses, and the purchase of supplies.
